May Have Jumped the Gun…

So, I realized I may have jumped the gun yesterday in my blog post when I said I didn’t want to adhere to any diet “guidelines” or “plans.” I’ve actually decided that rejoining Weight Watchers would be a good step in the right direction.

For some background, I joined WW at the beginning of this year and really enjoyed it. For those of you who aren’t too familiar with WW, the philosophy behind it is that you have a certain amount of food “points” each day you are allowed to eat, depending on your weight and weight loss goals. A slice of pizza might be 7 points, while a cup of yogurt might be 2 or 3. The calculation of the points (if I’m remembering correctly) is based on calories, fat, carbs, and protein. If you want to get even more technical, you are also given a certain number of “splurge” points each week, in addition to your daily point allowance, so you aren’t completely deprived of all those treats you love.

There were a lot of things I liked about WW. For one, I liked that there really wasn’t a set guideline on what you should and shouldn’t eat. In my eyes, WW is more of a weight loss tool, rather than a diet plan. It helps keep you accountable for what you are eating by tracking your food intake and using the points system to keep you on the right path. I loved that their mobile app was, for the most part, really easy to use and track your meals and snacks. It was fun to use their scanner to take pictures of food labels and have it automatically enter the amount of points you consumed. The community at is also a big boost, and everyone I “met” was encouraging and positive.

The only downside I felt was it can be a bit tedious trying to keep track of every little thing you consume, and one can become a bit obsessive with the point counting. I think after a month or so I became lazy, more so about having to eat healthy than with WW itself, and fell off the wagon. I ended my membership and unsurprisingly the weight came back after a few months.

Now here today, about to embark on another attempt of being phat, not fat, I think WW would be a good resource to have in my back pocket. It is very likely that once I get back into the groove of a healthy lifestyle, I won’t need the crutch of tracking every little bite I eat, because it will come naturally. However, for now I don’t think it can do any harm.

To keep things light, here is a silly photo of me indulging in my favorite maple donut (while I still can):

Till Next Time,
